The Ministry of Religious Affairs has taken back the “Nexus” book given as a gift to Bangladeshi Hafez who won the International Quran Competition after the controversy.

Mohammad Shamim Qaiser, Minister of State for Religious Affairs, took back the book from the winning Hafez on Sunday afternoon.

Bangladeshi Hafez who won awards at the 46th King Abdul Aziz International Holy Quran Competition were presented with several books each. Among these books was the Bengali translation of ‘Nexus’ written by Israeli historian Noah Harari. Prime Minister Tariq Rahman himself handed over the books to the winners. Later, when the picture of giving the book came to light, discussion and criticism started on social media.

In view of this, in a post given on the verified Facebook account of the Ministry of Religious Affairs on Sunday evening, the information about the return of ‘Nexus’ books was informed. According to the ministry’s post, under the direction of the Prime Minister, the book given as a gift to the Bangladeshi Hafez who won the award in the 46th King Abdul Aziz International Holy Quran Competition has been returned by the Minister of State for Religious Affairs Mohammad Shamim Kaiser Lincoln.

The post also informed that the state minister took back the book from the winner Hafez in his office on Sunday afternoon. Along with Hafez, their teachers were also present at this time.

The Minister of State for Religion said that the book was taken back with quick action after receiving the instructions of the Prime Minister. At the same time, government activities to implement the announced international tours, assistance and other commitments for Hafez, the winners of the competition, are continuing.
